Shining Star - Sylvia Person

Sylvia PersonMiami-Dade's Office of Film and Entertainment highlights a County employee who has delivered excellence to the Film & Entertainment industry as our "Shining Star".

Our Shining Star this month is Sylvia Person, the Special Events Coordinator for the Miami-Dade Transit department. Ms. Person's 20 year County career has been spent predominantly in the Transit Department. Ms. Person is a cheerleader for Miami Dade Transit and is responsible for Access Permits for all buildings that are within 30 feet of the transit system and is the point-person to coordinate all approvals for film and photo shoots on the Metromover, Metrorail, buses and County Transit facilities.
Ms. Person has coordinated the film and photo shoots for Transit over the last seven years. "Metrorail and especially the Metromover has been a favorite location for Film and photo shoots. Where else can you get such great moving views of Downtown Miami? Our Transit system does show off some of the best views of our city for Filmmakers"

"Working with the entertainment crews is always interesting. I love the different concepts and creative ideas that flow. We are asked if they (Production companies) can do crazy things… like hoist a rail car or have a cameraman hanging over the tracks… Very creative! They believe that most things are doable . Of course, we have to make sure that not only the public stays safe, but also that the film folks and our Transit operators are safe through the entire creative process"

"I loved working with Bad Boys 2. It was interesting and challenging at the same time. We held the Metromover trains so that the actors could jump over a stationary mover car to then jump over to another building"
"I come from the service industry so I try to be as accommodating as possible. If a Transit Guard is not available to accompany production, I will do my best to escort production myself."

Sylvia Person was born in Florida and raised in Miami. She has two daughters and she has five grandchildren. She's been happily married to her husband Carl for 16 years. She also loves speaking to groups of children, traveling, volunteering and shopping. But Ms. Person's real passion is singing. "I sing anytime I can. Do you know any musical agents?" she says laughingly.
