Shining Star
Miami-Dade's Office of Film and Entertainment highlights a County employee who has delivered excellence to the Film & Entertainment industry as our "Shining Star".
Our Shining Star this month is Jimmy Martincak, the Superintendent for our Public Works department, Causeway Division. Mr. Martincak's main function is to oversee and maintain the beaches, roadways, concessions, fishing pier, toll booth collection and Capital projects on both the Rickenbacker and Venetian Causeways. Also, Mr. Martincak is responsible for special events (i.e., marathons, triathlons and bike races, film shoots) that are held on the Causeways. Mr. Martincak is the liaison to assist with the coordination of approvals for film and photo shoots on the both the Venetian and Rickenbacker.
Jimmy Martincak's 26 year career with the county has always been within in the Public Works department. He began as a bridge repairman and worked his way up to his current Superintendent status eight years ago.
Mr. Martincak has coordinated the film and photo shoots for the Venetian and Rickenbacker Causeways for more than fifteen years. "The Causeways, especially Hobie Beach on Rickenbacker have been popular for many years, especially for photo shoots," he says. "The William Powell turnaround is another a favorite location because you can have a shot of both the water and city in the background".
Some of the shoots Mr. Martincak works with are a little more difficult. "We see a lot of music videos that like to shoot at the Rickenbacker beaches. Those shoots can be quite large and sometimes very logistically challenging. But we like to accommodate the shoots because we know that it brings jobs and worldwide exposure of the city."
"My most memorable experience of the many shoots I have witnessed is the one where CSI- Miami staged a shark attack off the beach on the Causeway. That was trip!!"
Jimmy Martincak was born and raised in Miami. He graduated from both Pace High School and Miami Dade College. He has been married for 26 years ("As long as I have been with the County!") to his high school sweetheart Renee. Jimmy and Renee have twin 16 year old daughters. Jimmy is an avid outdoorsman. He is a runner, biker, boater and backwater fisherman. "I have the best office in the County! I come and work on the beach every day. Where else can you see can you have the best office-view of the beach and see celebrities like Madonna jogging by with their bodyguards? I love my job!"
