Shining Star
Miami-Dade's Office of Film and Entertainment highlights a County employee who has delivered excellence to the Film & Entertainment industry as our "Shining Star".
Our Shining Star this month is Janelle Hall, the Manager of the Public Affairs Community Office for the Miami-Dade Corrections department. Ms. Hall's main function is to coordinate special events and provide information to the public and the media.
Ms. Hall is also the liaison for coordination and approval of film and photo shoots on at Miami-Dade Corrections facilities.
For 31 years Janelle Hall has been working for the County as a Public Information Officer. "I worked ten years as a PIO for the County Communications Department and my last twenty-one years I have been with Department of Corrections. Only two departments in 31 years!" said Hall. Besides assisting with Film and Photo requests, she also coordinates two of her favorite programs: Fingerprinting for Kid's Safety and Jail is Hell. The latter is where correctional staff and inmates share their experiences in an attempt to discourage children from a life of drugs, alcohol and guns".
"Film productions have kept us busy this year! We had America's Most Wanted, Burn Notice and two telenovelas for Telemundo. The Telemundo productions filmed twice each for multiple days!" states Hall.
Hall says her fondest moment was meeting Wesley Snipes when Drop Zone filmed in Miami, and when CNN's Soledad O'Brien came to shoot a story about the prison system. "I was impressed by her professionalism"
Janelle Hall was born and raised in Miami. She went to Florida State University. She is President of the Women's Group for her Community Church. Her children and her Church are the focus of her life after work. Hall's daughters are ages 25, 23, 20 and 19.
