Shining Star

Mike DmytriwMiami-Dade's Office of Film and Entertainment highlights a County employee who has delivered excellence to the Film & Entertainment Industry as our Shining Star.

This month's Shining Star is Mike Dmytriw, Park Manager III for Haulover Beach Park and Marina.  Mr. Dmytriw has been working on and off with the Parks department for over 40 years. His career started at Haulover Golf Course (recently closed) and has worked over the years at various County Parks & Golf Courses, including the Palmetto Golf Course, Greynolds, Larry & Penny Thompson, Amelia Earhardt, and Coral Reef.  Mr. Dmytriw has been back at Haulover Park, since 2006.

Mike Dmytriw is responsible for the day-to-day operations at the beach and marina. His duties include overseeing security and special events like film and photo shoots at the beach and marina areas. Dmytriw enjoys the eclectic atmosphere that comes with the coordinating the needs of the film & photo shoots. "It's always a challenge to coordinate the film shoots and the need for public access to beach/marina."

"I really enjoy working with the crews", say Dmytriw. "It's always interesting. I really enjoy watching the whole process of filmmaking and photo shoots. The best part is to see the finished product on TV, at the movies or in a magazine. It's cool to see the end result of the work they do here."

Mr. Dmytriw has been married sixteen years to his wife, Norma Gene. They share a passion for something most of his colleagues don't know about - Ukrainian Dancing!  Dmytriw has danced with a Ukrainian Dance troop for over 35 years and his wife has shared his love of Ukrainian dance since they have been married.

Born and raised in Miami, graduating North Miami High School and Miami-Dade Community College and then going to Golf Management School in upstate Florida, Dmytriw has always lived the proverbial Florida outdoors lifestyle. His passions include golf, tennis, boating, flats fishing, diving and above all cycling.

When Mike Dmytriw retires in the next couple of years he will pursue his other interests of constructing high-end stereo systems and traveling in the United States and abroad. He looks forward to continue to meet interesting people like he has working in the County parks - locals, tourists and those eclectic film people!
