South by Southwest 2010

FilMiami joined Film Florida and Miami filmmaker Jim Bigham in Austin TX for the annual film, interactive and music conference South by Southwest (SXSW) in March. Jim  Bigham’s film “For Once In My Life”, a documentary about the Goodwill Industries stage band conquering individual disabilities to make joyful music, won the Best Documentary Audience Award at the festival. The film also garnered a lot of great industry press and producers fielded many inquiries from potential distributers at the festival.

SXSW also provided FilMiami an opportunity to market South Florida as a filming destination at the conference trade show, which has doubled in size and attendance in the past few years. In conjunction with Film Florida, the Miami group also co-hosted a filmmaker’s reception – the Film Florida Fish Fry – at the Wave on Austin’s famous 6th Street during the festival which attracted nearly 500 attendees, including FSU graduate/indie filmmaker Barry Jenkins, the cast and producers from “For Once In My Life”, NATPE’s CEO Rick Feldman, and prolific indie producer Adele Romanski among many others. The annual SXSW conference continued to be one of the best marketing opportunities of the year for FilMiami to reach out to filmmakers, interactive producers and the music industry to promote the entertainment production industry in Miami-Dade County.
